Made In Japan - Akio Morita And Sony

Its about Sony. How did they choose the name? "Sonnus" is a latin word. "Sonnus" means sound. The people in the company came up with the name "Sonny". Sonny means, dude....which means a very informal word. So they removed one letter, 'n'. And then comes the word =>Sony.
The company was entirely established in Japan and then went International. Akio Morita along with his friend founded the company. The post war period. After the devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. To develop one atom bomb it takes twenty years.
Akio Morito has worked in the army. And is a person with high discipline. The author has traveled around the globe in trying to sell the product and brand name,"Sony".

Facts:
J.F.Kennedy Airport in Newyork was previously called,"Idlewood".
Rent in New York apartment in 1960's was $1200.
For T.V. the tubes which generate the Red, Green, Blue - RGB =>first came the cyclotron, then came the chromotron and then came the Trinitron.

Lessons to learn:
Mental discipline is very important. Otherwise it becomes lazy. - akio morita.

A Caravan From Hindustan

How many of you enjoyed reading, listening to Akbar & Birbal stories when young???????????I loved reading Akbar Birbal stories. I got hold of lots of comic books too when I was young...(am still young..............) Same old stories again and again. Again and again and again...As I grew up i got tired...until I found this book.

This book blends the actual stories, arguments, laughter of Akbar and Birbal along with lots of real history. I personally found this  an interesting read as there is no imagination, no creativity - but just thinking normally, practically. These stories happened in Fatehpur Sikri for real in the 16 century. The author has travelled far and wide in Northern India to get these stories from the mouth of the people.
When I was young I didn't first realize that Akbar Birbal stories were real.

Akbar. A Muslim. Full name is Jalaludin Mohammed Akbar Padshah Ghazi. Emperor Of India. Ruled from Agra or Lahore. An Illiterate. A compassionate king. A just king. A human being who always sticks to his words.
Birbal. A Hindu Brahmin. Real name is Mahesh Das. A person with good presence of mind, humor, wit, . And he is great trustworthy faithful friend of King Akbar. A just, honest friend for people. A problem solver. A man who owns nothing but simple straightforward thinking.

Akbar when he was young boy went for hunting. He met Mahesh Das. An incident took place & Akbar was instantly impressed with Mahesh Das. The saga of true friendship started when both Akbar & Mahesh were young...........such that am reading it in the 21st century.

Mahesh Das came to Fatehpur Sikri when he became older. He became one of the nine ministers in Akbar's Court. Mahesh Das then came to be known as,"Wazir Birbal".And was only with Akbar his entire life until he was killed in the Afgan Battle in 1585.

While reading this book, I realized how & why the game of chess was invented.
Akbar is very interested in hunting animals. But after an interesting conversation between Akbar, Birbal with regard to two owls speaking...Akbar gave up hunting and never ate meat for 9 months in the year.

Some of the interesting quotes I came across while reading the book:
1. Shadows make the light lovely by their contrast. So foolishness makes us cherish wisdom. We often learn more from the fools than from the wise.
2. For I see that a man must change from the heart, not through outward rites.
3. Though each may be given what his heart desires, - it may be, in truth, what he least requires.
4. To gain money men will risk their lives, but to save it they will risk their souls.
5. People can be surprisingly easy to predict.
6. Reputation for generosity is worth more than gold.
7. Your worst enemy is the man who chooses your fair-weather friends.
8. A man's speech always reveals his origin.
9. In moments of surprise, or anger, or pain, a man reverts to his mother tongue.
10. God chooses to work through people. We all have some evil in us. If he removed evil from the world, He also would immediately have to take out you and me.
11. Nothing is more costly than foolishness. Yet fools are never made to pay for their mistakes - that burden falls to the rest of the humanity.
12. Artists create illusion. But the ability to see the truth  - this talent is rare in the world. Rarer still, are those who use art to reveal the truth.
13. Poor man uses his head. Rich man wastes his life fearing to lose it.
14. One's own life is dearer than the life of one's child.
15. When your house burns down - at least you get revenge upon the bedbugs.
16. You were in such a hurry to get the information you wanted, you would never have listened to the advice you need.

Richie Rich - The Poor Little Rich Boy

I always loved to read comics when I was a kid. Especially, the tinkle, the Chandamama stories. And can anyone imagine where I used to get all these comics...The Railway Station. Yes the road side Railway Station bookshops. My fascination for these shops have never stopped. In my bag, I always used to have a book I purchased from Landmark, Higginbothams, Barnes & Noble, Woldenbooks..But still , again and again, just before getting into the train I have to get a book. And I love the way I bargain with that guy for the book [which would already be @ a low price]. And before I get down in the destination station, I would have finished the book...

I have heard of Richie Rich when I was a kid but haven't read it though. I did my schooling in a Wi-fi .........oops sorry..hi-fi school where all the rich kids from the city come. And all they did discuss was Richie Rich, Archie, Betty & Veronica...I just heard it. But now only I read...Of Course only Richie Rich. But when I started reading it I never imagined I would come to like that kid so much...The Richie Rich.
He is a small boy.
A cute boy.
A daddy's boy who would always be in the formal clothes.
If his girlfriend asks a candy, a loving boy is he who would purchase the whole candy shop for millions, billions, trillions of dollars just to give Gloria a "dum dum" worth 50 cents.
A boy who has mutual respects for every other human being...Butler Cadbury...
Of all things a boy who does anything and everything for his friends PeeWee & Freckles...Takes good care of them such that he fights with his cousin Reggie too....
A hero who fights with the bad guys...

Can any single person satisfy please every single living being in this planet and Mars (Richie Rich has been to Mars)....Richie Rich could do it.

One could never find the synonyms for the words, "Possible", "Practical" in the book....
For e.g. Richie Rich wanted to take a movie. The movie crew said they wanted a ice berg in the middle of the lake (but in movie it would be a atlantic, pacific, artic ocean)...Richie Rich asks the movie crew to come tomorrow. Tomorrow when the crew comes there they see a huge ice-berg set in the middle of the lake...of course a small lake. The movie crew with lot of concern ask if nothing will happen to the set...Richie Rich confirms nothing will happen....When the movie crew asked how Rich got this set...Richie Rich with a giggle, a humble laugh, with an enviable modesty replies..."It is not a set. It is an Uncut Diamond"...............WOW WOW.....

This is just a single comic of the rest 125 i read...And the character is lovable character for all the person of all ages...

These comic books have a lot of hard work inside. Especially the drawings...The drawings were done by Ernie Colon. Kids, Adults, Old People are all reading this book, looking at pictures most of which are B & W that is a product of mid twentieth century in the twenty-first century..

The Fountainhead - AynRand

8/14/09
----------
The other day myself and my childhood friend were speaking. we have been friends for last 24 years. right from the time we both were 6 years old (so now everyone knows mine and my friend's age....). she with genuine affection was appreciating the blog and the conversation flowed like a gentle flowing river. we were discussing about books. i said, "next am going to read Atlas Shrugged". She said, "Amsa don't read Ayn Rand...There is too much attitude in that book". Probably my friend felt that I already am walking with too much attitude in stock and if she reads it...she will fly with 3 much or 4 much attitude....best buddies always know the real you....

I was browsing about ayn rand. before atlas shrugged in 1940's came out the novel "the fountainhead". and these novels aren't like 300, 400 pages...easily they are all like 600 700 pages...after completely reading 700 pages...please don't think i'll write the review...i'll keep writing it as and when i feel like writing....

off to reading ayn rand "the fountainhead".

have a nice day.

8/22/09
----------
Read 55 pages. The book is about Architecture. Its about a 22 year old boy. Roark. Ayn Rand has described his character very nicely to its readers. Ayn Rand stands tall in her language in letting know the readers the thought process of Roark.

Roark has an ambition. He has a great concentration. And he has a reason for wanting to become the greatest architect. But again he gets expelled from school before his final year. And he chooses to go and work for a drunkard, once upon a time a great architect.
Roark has a friend - Keating. Keating goes to work for Guy Francon. Keating has a girlfriend - Katie. Katie has a uncle - Ellsworth Toohey - The critic for architecture. So far the story has revolved around these guys.....

There is a lot of good quotes in the 55 pages...will write once i go to fort wayne....as now am in detroit, mi.

Alice Adventures In Wonderland And Through The Looking Glass- Lewis Carrol.

I came across this book in Barnes And Nobles. I got the book. But why did I get this book. Its a kid book...But I love reading kids book. My all time favorite writer is Enid Blyton. Especially the Naughtiest Girl Series.

Alice In Wonderland...Alice a small girl really goes to a wonderland. It is a wonderland because animals speak. Animals wear jacket. They do have a watch. And kid animals like Caterpillars advice the girls who are kids. It really is a wonderland because this cute little girl shrinks, grows...and where stones turn into cake...my daughter would love it though.

To say frankly though, am just waiting to finish the book. Suppose its a boring book for me now...(but still find Enid Blyton interesting....).. but i did like thoughts expressed in the book especially in the chapter, "the mock turtle story"...

two words to express this book, "absolute fantasy".

Today I completed reading this book. Suppose this book would have been a great book for me if I had read 20 years back..
Alice, the kid does nothing else but go from one room to another in the wonderland speaking with all the pet animals like duck, turtle, rabbit, and also speaking to the pack of cards, the king and the queen...only to realize in the end that all was a dream...

8/14/09
----------
Organize the day...I did. I wanted to complete reading the sequel Of Alice Adventures In Wonderland, "Through The Looking Glass". Being bored with the first series, I started reading the sequel with less expectations. But surprises do prop up and it did in a big way. It was a nice piece of work.

The plot goes on like this..There is a large chess board. Alice travels through the chess board. The characters in the chess board have different names on the book. The sequel is all about her journey, the conversation she strikes with the king, queen, the tweedledum, tweedledee (i thought the names were very cute), the knight (the horse)...

And is this all a dream.............Yes it was. And how she dreamed...well that was interesting too.

I liked reading the sequel.

Mahabharata

An Ancient Epic. A Sacred Epic. The epic starts of like this on the first page. "Whatever is there in Mahabharate is what is happening in this world. What is not there in the epic will not, cannot happen anywhere in this world".

This epic has been written eons and eons ago. A Sanskrit epic. In this epic, one can see

love hatred
honesty cheating
friendship enemity
jealousy

From this great epic came a part. The Bhagavad Gita. This epic also teaches duty, devotion, listening to conscience and doing the right thing.

My Favorite Scene

1. Just Before The Start Of The War. The war is about to begin. Pandavas, Kauravas are in the battlefield Kurushetra. Bheeshmar didn't wage the war. So did Dronacharyar. They were in the Kauravas side. Pandavas, espeically Arjuna is very dear to both Bheeshmar and Drona.

Just before the war is about to begin, Dharma gets down from his chariot. Walks to Bheeshmar, Drona. Genuflects with great humbleness, respect, devotion for his masters Bheeshmar, Drona. Dharma wanted their blessings before the start of the war.

My favorite character in this epic is Karna.

The Birth Of Karna

When Kunti was young, a sage stayed in her palace. He was overwhelmed by her patience, respect and service to him. He said her a mantra. And said the appropriate time to say the mantra too. Kunti wanted to test it. She said the mantra. The sun god, Surya gave her a son. She beared a son in a young age. She didn't want her family and friends to know. She left the son in a river. The son was named Karna. He was brought up by a man and women living along the riverside.

My favorite scenes of the epic are:

1. Dialogue between Karna And Krishna. The war was decided. Kurushetra. War between Pandavas And Kauravas. Pandavas didn't want the war. Kauravas wanted the war. The elders in Pandava Group was very discomforted. The Pandava Group sent Krishna, Balarama to speak to the Kauravas. The Kauravas didn't heed to the request. At the end of the conversation, Krishna said he wanted to speak to Karna in person. Krishna and Karna went away in the chariot to be alone.

Krishna: Are you going to fight with your brothers ?
Karna: I don't want to. But I have promised Duryodhana. Promised Duryodhana............

END OF CONVERSATION.

Krishna went away in the chariot alone.....

2. Dialogue between Karna And Kunti. Everyone was getting ready for the war. The Kurushetra. Kunti was sad. Karna was with Duryodhana. He is a good archer. He is her son. She didn't want to lose him in the war. And so are the pandavas. Neither she wanted to lose the pandavas.

Karna in the early morning hours was taking bath in the river and praying to Sun God. Kunti came to Karna. Karna knows very well that Kunti is his mom.

Kunti : I didn't want you to fight the war.
Karna : I have to as Duryodhana is depending on me to win over the pandavas.
Kunti: I don't want to lose you.
Karna: Mom, my main aim is Arjuna. I'll not harm any of my other brothers.

At the end of the conversation, Karna promised Kunti.........."Mom, at any time you will have 5 sons"......He kept his promise.

END OF SCENE 2

3. Dialogue between Bheeshmar and Karna. Karna and Bheeshmar never got along with each other. They always argued. They always had contractions. They always fought. In the kurushetra war, at the end Bheeshmar was lying in the bed of arrows. Everyone paid their humble respects to Bheeshmar. Karna never came. But he did come. He paid his respects to Bheeshmar. Karna cried. And so did Bheeshmar. Lying in the bed of arrows, not inviting the death at that momemt,

Bheeshmar : Do you know why I always scolded you? I don't want you to fight with Pandavas. You know Duryodhana is not right.
Karna : Yes I do realize the same.
Bheeshmar: Then why are you fighting for Duryodhana ?
Karna: I promised Duryodhana that I will kill Arjuna.

Bheeshmar blessed Karna.

END OF SCENE 3.
